Thank you to Forbidden Planet for selling me this kit. This article isn't sponsored, but I'm still appreciative of the kits they do have in stock, even if I prefer going into town to the physical store since their website makes it a bit tricky to tell if the gundam product in question is a model kit or an action figure, and I know fully well that they sell both.
Back to Superdeformed kits for a massive palette cleanser after the glory of Mechagodzilla and the noticeable letdown of the Turn A. And this isn't a complex SD kit this time like the Zeromaru was. This is a simple, cute, shiny little guy, and there's a pretty reasonable chance I'll enjoy this one, seeing how my favourite Superdeformed, the Sima Yi Destiny Gundam, is in the Sangoku Soketsuden line (think Romance of the Three Kingdoms with a robot zombie virus). So let's unwind and snap together something simplistic, in preparation for the kit I've got after this. Gonna definitely be a mostly picture-based post today.
Ah, it's so refreshing to see a small foil sticker sheet on an SD kit after the last one.
Head
Ahh, so it's one of those gundam heads that downplays the head grill in a Zeta-esque fashion. I also like the contrast of the transparent blue against the transparent orange.
Body
Arms
ARSE. Those shoulder stickers are so unwieldy that I ended up tearing one of them. I knew there was a reason the manual says, "Be careful not to tear the stickers", but that doesn't stop this from being an awkward annoyance even by the standards of foil stickers.
Waist
Ahh, that's the sticker sheet used up. Feels like a breath of fresh air to see it used up so quickly.
Legs
Ooh, the blue part here (which I mistakenly believed were the toes) can be pulled out "to expand the range of articulation", apparently. That's a wee bit sophisticated for an SD kit.
As much as I get the appeal of an asymmetrical design like this, you're not alone if you think one of the shoulders looks a little bare. And that's because there's one more thing left to do...
Weapons
The title "weapons" is plural because the side barrels can be detached and used as melee weapons.
And...yeah, that's about it. It sure is a typical Sangoku Soketsuden SD kit. Unique to this kit, personally I aesthetically prefer the more menacing look of the Sima Yi (especially since that kit doesn't have anything like those annoying shoulder stickers), but on the other hand, the colour scheme for this kit is certainly pleasing to the eye, more so than the more blandly uniform gold of the Zhou You Akatsuki. I'd say this kit makes for a nice enough middleground in terms of SDSS kits I've build thus far, and for my purposes serves nicely to calm my kit-building instincts down for the kit I've got next.
...
It's still not a Perfect Grade, sheesh!
Stay safe and keep clipping, folks!
The Good
+ The golds are pretty
+ Interesting colour scheme
+ Huge shoulder cannon
The Bad
- As much articulation and visual detail as you'd expect from an SD kit
- Oversized, over-angular shoulder stickers
Build Experience: B
Completed Kit Rating: C
